Bus to Windsor

We still have space on the bus to Windsor next week (November 26th to 28th). The bus departs Friday around noon and will return to the OGC by 4:00pm on Sunday. On Saturday the bus will be taking parents across to Detroit to do some Christmas Shopping.

Anyone is welcome. Aunts, neighbours, grandparents, friends, older siblings. We have the space and need to fill it.

If you're interested contact Don.

Training Suits

The OGC Acrobatic Gymnastics Program is giving you the option to buy a Team Training suit.

Saucy's World Gym suit manufacturers will be coming on Sunday, November 21st from 6:00 to 6:45pm to measure Acro athletes for suits.

The suit is simple and looks something like this. It can be worn with regular black nylon shorts for the girls comfort.

The boys will have the black singlets and shorts with the OGC twisty guy logo embroidered on the shorts.

Again purchasing the suit is optional this year but will be mandatory for the competitive team next year. We will keep the suit the same for two years.

Note that prior to competitions athletes will have to buy a competitive suit for their routines.

Windsor Training Camp INFO

If this was not e-mailed to you directly then you are not on Don's e-mail list. Send him an e-mail at dholmes_tumbling@hotmail.com so that he can add you to the list.

Parents Please note that you are welcome and encouraged to travel with your son/daugther to this Training Camp on the bus. You are part of the team and I would prefer that parents act as chaperone/manager for their own child during the weekend but there will be a few I understand who cannot get out of other family commitments that weekend.

Parents if you want to bring siblings of your acro athletes or someone else to fill the seats and do some shopping you are welcome to do so as I'm sure we will have space.

1st Acrobatic Gymnastics Training Camp

Alright, so we finally have the Call to Camp for the 1st Ontario Acrobatic Gymnastics Training Camp. I will hand out a more complete document this week once we have a hotel group booking in place and potentially a team coach bus to take us down and bring us back that weekend. Parents are welcome to come and the bus we are looking into will also take you across the border to do some shopping in Detroit.

The Training Camp will be in Windsor Vistas Gymnastics Club.

If you are planning on attending which everyone should be then you can register with Agnes in the office later this week.

More info to follow.

Here they are warming up with the team and mastering a new pyramid. OGC's Acro Coach Don attended with the boys and also acted at the tumbling clinician for the camp.

Recreational Acrobats

Here are a couple pics of Kirby's littlest Acrobats. They work on the Level 1 Individual Element routine shown in the previous post but they also work form the American PreTeam Handbook for Acrobatic Gymnastics.

What they lack in form they make up for in cuteness!

Level 1 Acro Routine pic

Here is what the Level 1 Individual Element routine from the draft Canadian Level system for Acrobatic Gymnastics looks like on paper. For those of you who are interested this is what we work from to create the routine you see in the video below. It is a 10 element routine created to develop all the aspects of an acrobatic gymnast: flexibility, strength, extension, tumbling, presentation.

Level 1 Individual Routine

Here is a video of the Level 1 Individual Routine for Acrobatic Gymnastics basics. This routine was developed by Andrzej Cichalewski and Dmitry Belyaykov of the Gymnastics Canada Strategic Development Committee for Acrobatic Gymnastics. There is a draft of a four level Canadian Acrobatic Gymnastics system that was produced in the winter of 2010. Though Ontario is using the American system we still try to use some of the elements from the draft Canadian system so that we can work towards developing our own program to be used Nation wide as we are growing as a sport.

Here Alexandra of the OGC's Provincial Acrobatic Gymnastics group shows off the Level 1 routine with a few modifications of her own, e.g. the 1st element rather than a stork stand is a Y-scale and she does 3 kick steps instead of two. We use this routine with our Recreational and Interclub groups to teach them the basic elements.

Error

Just realized that the Recreational Class on the schedule starts at 3:00pm NOT 3:30pm. The Recreational Acrobatic Gymnastics Class runs from 3:00 to 4:30pm.

My apologies if anyone got confused by that.

October Schedule etc

Here is the October schedule. I know we are half way through the month but everyone seemed to know what was going on.

Kirby's Recreational and Interclub classes that were cancelled this past weekend will have scheduled Make Up classes this Friday, October 15th. When I find out the times I will post them here. I'm pretty sure they are 4:30 to 6:00 and 6:00 to 7:30pm. I will confirm that here on the blog.

The Provincial Group will not have a Make Up class for this past weekend. Sorry.

On Halloween the Recreational and Interclub groups WILL have training as they are early enough that you can still get home and out for Trick-or-Treating.

The Provincial Group will not have class that night but instead will have a Make Up class on Friday, October 22nd from 7:00 to 9:00pm.

Note that in November we will be having our first Gymnastics Ontario Acrobatic Gymnastics Training Camp in Windsor, Ontario. It will take place the weekend of November 26th to 28th. Acro Athletes in both the Interclub and Provincial Groups are eligible to attend and it is strongly recommended.

More info will be posted on this event soon.

If you are not on the OGC Acrobatic Gymnastics e-mail list please send a message to me, Don sooner than later so that I can keep you up to date. If you are reading this blog then you should be up to date anyways.

GO Acro Workshop NO GO

Just a note for anyone who was going to come and be a demonstrator for me at the Gymnastics Ontario Acrobatic Gymnastics workshop on Saturday, October 2nd.

It's have been CANCELLED so do not come to Futures Gymnastics.

My apologies. Not enough people registered.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Thanksgiving Weekend

There will not be any training on the Thanksgiving weekend.

The Recreational Class from 3:00 to 4:30pm that Kirby coaches will be rescheduled.

The Interclub Class from 4:45 to 6:15pm also coached by Kirby will be rescheduled.

These two classes will be rescheduled as the regular recreational classes will be taking place that day so these two classes need to be rescheduled.

The Provincial Acrobatic Gymnastics Group will not be reschedule on this date but will be rescheduled for the Halloween Weekend.

I should have the October schedule up soon.

Canada's Wonderland Day

Every year Gymnastics Ontario has a day at Canada's Wonderland. Here is a notice about the day. Feel free to make ticket purchases directly through the Gymnastics Ontario office as the OGC office will not be taking care of tickets purchases for us.

Hope to see some of you there. It should be a great day. There is a presentation in the morning for all of the Gymnastics Ontario Champions from 2010. Eventually Acrobatic Gymnastics will have Provincial Champions too.

OGC Boys Final Routine Dynamic

Here is their final routine. In the 11-16 category the Acrobats repeat one of their preliminary round routines. The boys chose their Dynamic routine as it was the better show even though it started out of a lower start value and took some deductions.

They had a good time delivering this routine. Way to go boys!!!

OGC Boys Balance Routine

It's taken me some time to get these up here but finally you can see how the boys did for yourself.

Here is their Balance Routine.

Worlds Day 5 Results

Today Canada's Women's Pair in the 11-16 category placed 22nd overall with a nice dynamic routine.

The Canadian Men's Four in the 11-16 category (Oakville's own) had a solid dynamic routine and placed 4th.

The Canadian Men plan to do their dynamic routine again tomorrow in the finals. Good luck boys.

12 to 19 Men's Groups

The 12 to 19 year old Men's groups are pretty amazing.

Some ACRO pics

Thought you might want to see some of what the other teams are doing.
We have a long way to go to catch up but we are off to a good start.
It's absolutely one of the most beautiful and entertaining sports in the world.

Worlds Day 4

Today Canada's Age Acrobats competed in the Balance routine. This was the first ever competition for both of Canada's groups. Congratulations to the Girl's Pair and the Boy's Group.
Results are here. You can even see Eva in the bottom corner, on the "Kiss and Cry" couch if you look really close.

It's been a long day so this post is short.

Good luck tomorrow in the Dynamic routines.

Go Canada! Go!
