OGC Year End Gala Gymnastics Performance June 6th

On the evening of Thursday, June 6th the Oakville Gymnastics Club's competitive athletes will be part of the 1st ever Year End Gala Gymnastics Performance.  The evening has a theme of "Night At the Movies".  All competitive gymnasts from Interclub to Elite will be taking part showing off their skills.  We will be pulling out the 3 sets of in-gym bleachers for family and friends to get a close up view of their favourite gymnasts out on the equipment.  We will need parent volunteers to help with some aspects of the evening's performance so keep your eyes open for opportunities to complete your volunteer hours.

This is an optional event that we strongly suggest your athlete attends.  All regular classes will be cancelled o that evening, including the recreational programs.  Admission will be by donation to the competitive discipline you wish to donate too.  Funds raised will go towards coaches travel costs for the 2013/2014 season so feel free to invite extended family, friends and neighbours.

More details will be come available shortly.  You can plan for athletes to be at the gym from 5:30 to 8:00pm.

Les Jeux FGQ Group Gymnastics Demonstration

The OGC Acrobats traveled to Montreal to participate in the 2013 Quebec Gymnastics Games on May 4th.  This event was a large fun gymnastics event showcasing the group or team gymnastics sports that are offered by the Quebec Gymnastics Federation.  Though the OGC athletes performed their competitive routines scores were not given out rather "So You Think You Can Dance" style feedback was provided to the athletes and the overall routines were acknowledged at the end of the day.  The routines were witnessed by a panel of judges including the following: Eva Rucka, one of the founders of acrobatic gymnastics in Canada, Dmitry Belyaykov, Acrobatic Gymnastics Talent Scout for Cirque du Soleil, and Jerome, from the National Circus School.

The weekend was absolutely great for everyone with beautiful weather, good food and friendly gymnastics.  The Quebec Games included Artistic Gymnastics, Cheerleading, Acro and Gymnaestrada performances at a huge fieldhouse in Terrebonne.

This was a fun way to perform our routines one more time in a low stress environment..

COOL to see OGC acrobats take the top three routine spots in the first half of the event.

Claire and Erin happy to have been awarded top routine of the first 22 performances.

2013 Ontario Championships & Ontario Open Tournament Awards pics

Here are the pics from the awards ceremonies from the 2013 Ontario Championships for Acrobatic Gymnastics and the Ontario Open Tournament.

Alexandra, Tessa and Sophie won Gold in the 11-16 Women's Group as they were yet again the only trio in their category.

Ioana, Kelsey and Isabel placing second behind the 12-18 Women's Trio from Mississauga.

The Gymnastes de l'Ile competed in a category not common in Ontario called International Beginner.  Here are their awards podium finish.

Emma Shemko and Tessa Hickey of the OGC placed 3rd in the 2013 Ontario Championships for Level 5 Women's Pair.

However, in the Ontario Open Tournament Emma and Tessa placed 4th as the gold medalists were from Quebec's Gymnastes de l'Ile.

Level 6 Women's Group results show OGC bumped out of the gold medal spot by the trio from Mississauga.

Brenna and Daniela captured gold in the Level 6 Women's Pair 16 + age category.

The OGC's two Level 7 16+ Women's Pairs landed in 2nd and 3rd.  Kelsey Horn and Isabel Cumming took home the silver and Sierra Wilson and Ally Maurice captured the bronze.

Claire and Erin took home gold in the Level 7 Women's Pair 12-15 age category just ahead of teammates Anna and Kianna Wilson.

Natalie and Jack captured gold in the Ontario Open Tournament for Mixed Pairs in the International 11-16 category  17+ age group.

2013 Ontario Championships and Ontario Open Acrobatic Gymnastics Tournament

Here are some great pics from the 2013 Ontario Championships for Acrobatic Gymnastics.  The event included the 2013 Ontario Open Tournament for Acrobatic Gymnastics as well.  The two events were combined so that teams that had not qualified to the Ontario Championships still had an opportunity to compete.  The Open Tournament was also for any out of province teams that wanted to compete.

The event was held at Dynasty Cheer Academy in Scarborough which is all decked out in purple making for an interesting backdrop.

The OGC acrobats did a great job showing off their routines competing for the title of Best in Ontario.

May Schedule OGC Acro

Here is the May schedule for the OGC Acrobatic Gymnastics program.  Please give it a careful look over as there are many changes due to events and tryouts.  There seems to be something different every week this month.

Here are some points to note:

Tuesdays in May the Provincial Group will train from 7:00 to 9:00pm rather than 7:00 to 9:30pm.
Thursdays in May the Provincial Group will train from 7:00 to 9:30pm rather than 7:00 to 9:00pm.  This allows the Provincial and Elite groups to work together on Thursday nights and Sunday nights to prepare their group routine for the June 2nd Ajax Demo Day competition.

Friday, May 3rd to Sunday, May 5th Don and Jane are gone to Montreal with most of the Provincial and Elite Groups for the Quebec Gymnastics Federation Games: Acro Fever competition.

Sunday, May 5th Acro Interclub Groups 1 & 2 will have a combined training from 3:30 to 5:30pm to prepare for the Ajax Demo Day.  Interclub Groups 1&2 will train together on Sundays for the month of May  between 3:30 and 5:30pm each week so that they can prepare their group routine.

Sunday, May 5th there is NO TRAINING for the Provincial and Elite Acro Groups as most of you will still be en route returning from the Montreal competition.

Acro Interclub Groups will have their RETRYOUT for the competitive Acrobatic Gymnastics program on Sunday May 12th during the 3:30 to 5:30pm session.

If you are currently in the OGC Acrobatic Gymnastics competitive program (Interclub Group 1, Interclub Group 2, Provincial or Elite Groups) you DO NOT need to come to the OPEN TRYOUTS FOR ACROBATIC GYMNASTICS.

Provincial and Elite Acrobatic Groups will RETRYOUT on Sunday, May 12th during the 6:30 to 9:00pm training time.

OPEN TRYOUTS for the competitive Acrobatic Gymnastics program will take place on Wednesday, May 15th.  All scheduled acrobatics classes will be canceled on that evening.  Please note the schedule changes for that week.

The OGC Acrobatic Gymnastics Team for 2013 will be posted on Friday, May 17th.  You will be able to pick up packages on or after that date.

Sunday, May 19th of the Victoria Day weekend there are regular scheduled classes.  If you will be away please let your coaches know.

Monday, May 20th Victoria Day there will be no training as the gym is closed.

Tuesday, May 21st to Sunday, May 26th Don is away at the Canadian Championships for Tumbling.

Sunday, June 2nd is the Ajax Demo Day competition.
